#47 APE!

So a few weekends ago a whole bunch of friends and I went to APE. It stands for Alternative Press Expo. It's an annual thing, just like Wondercon. Except that in Wondercon it's more for mainstream stuff, but here it's for indie stuff/self published, etc.

Our teacher Joko was there! Selling his book and some prints. He taught me advanced perspective last semester. :D

Lol. Relationship advice. My housemate Pierre actually bought the POOP sign thingy. XD

Some small cute hot air balloons.

Uh Yeah.. I don't know what this guy is promoting..

There was a booth where the guy was having a "design the yeti's face" contest. And we needed to draw them on paper plates. These two were done by me and Pierre. Obviously we were trying to see who could come up with the uglier face. Mine's the one on the left. haha.

Lunchtime. There was no restaurants nearby so we went to Trader Joe's (sort of a supermarket) and got packed food.. like sushi and salad.

Saw this in someone's car on the way back to the expo.

It was a pretty fun day. I actually bought a sketchbook from a fellow Academy student that is helping me tremendously for one of my classes. Thank God I got that book.

Oh btw, my Malaysian friends. Check this out!
It's durian flavoured chewy candy! Lol. Saw this at Japantown.

#45 Mullet with headlights?

For the longest time I thought there could be no video to top the "Girly Man" video. I was wrong. This video did it with flying colors.

So at the start of the video I was rolling on the floor laughing at how brilliant the dub and lyrics are done over this old 80's music video.. and then I realised, wait a minute, NINJAS??!! This can't be the real music video, this has to be some really well done homemade parody. So both Jason and I end up laughing at how this blooper video is so well done that it really got the 90's music video look and feel down.

And then Aan told me a truth I couldn't accept. That IS the ORIGINAL music video. I went and search for Eclipse of the Heart and it was. I bet some of you who just watched this pretty much went through the stages of disbelief I did.

I will never hear Eclipse of the Heart the same way. ever. again.

#44 Are You Dumber Than A Fifth Grader?

I follow a game show called "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" and sometimes I wonder why would anyone make a gameshow where they pit the wits and smarts of an adult against a 10 year old. And after watching episodes after episodes, it occurred to me that Mark Burnett, the creator of the show, and many successful reality shows, is a genius.. because a lot of adults are dumber than a 10 year old.

Now one of my goals in life is to enter Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader one day, and show that I don't even need an American education to be able to answer those questions. With hope that they would allow a non-resident alien from a third world country to enter it anyway.

Yesterday I watching an episode where the 3rd Grade Math question was: What is 1 and 6/7 as an improper fraction? And it was MULTIPLE CHOICE with the answers being 13/7 , 7/6 and 1/7...

This was the contestant's explanation: "1 would be 1/1 and I multiply that with 6/7 I'll get 7/6."

I was dumbfounded.

Firstly, that is not how you get an improper fraction. Secondly, multiplying 1/1 with 6/7 does not equal 7/6!! Where in the world did she get that conclusion??!
*Mathgeek in me cringes in agony*

And the other day I watched an episode where the question was "How many Zs are there in the word "Lizard" and the conversation went like this:

Contestant: The word is lizard right? How many Zs in lizard?
Host: Yes.
Contestant: 2! *locks in answer*
Me: *facepalm*

Here's a little snippet I found when searching for stuff from the show.

"I thought Europe was a country"

And I thought dumb blondes only exist in movies.

#43 Just one thing..... 70 bucks.

So last Saturday was our final project presentation in our Advanced Perspective class. The project was pretty much a "you can do anything" project so what we had to do was come up with a story and create illustrations based off it. It was an ongoing project from the middle of the semester till now and we had to present everything that we came up with.

First up was Nadia, presenting the wars between races of the world, Dominance War.

Petur, in his "formal attire" presenting The Race, which relates to a game he helped created about an fantasy adventure race.

Me presenting Wreckdiver, a post apocalyptic steampunk story.

That's Joko "The Dude" Budiono. Probably one of the most awesome teachers I've had. I don't know why, probably the way he ties his hair, but he always reminds me of a samurai whenever I see him.

Sara presenting her mattepaintings for a video project called "Journey to a Futuristic City"

Pierre with his Chronicles of Pengu, about tribal penguins who fights polar bears during the next ice age.

Angeline with her version of the Elizabeth Bathory story.

Trevor explaining his Strands of Genesh story, about futuristic tribal people with powers.

Kam presenting his tribal story about a little girl magician. And there's Joko giving some critique.
Either that or he's going "Lookatthat. This is aweeesome."

Anh presenting Condition, a story inspired by schizophrenia/psychological horror.

Some photos of boards that I managed to take.

The Last Tooth. A pretty interesting more creepier take on the tooth fairy story. This was by a student who was from the Thursday's class but for certain reasons she probably couldn't make it for the presentation of her class and had to join ours.

This was a pretty funny and interesting story by Melvin about a guy who lost his job and wife and collects tin cans without knowing why he's doing so.

Less than 1 week till I fly home. Can't wait!

#42 I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEE~

Cookies for anyone who can guess who I'm quoting at the top.

Anyway, much apologies for leaving this blog to rot.. not sure if anyone even still visits here but I shall update it now with some stuff that happened this semester. Though I can guess the next time I update this will be months from now.. but oh wells... My friend Shaun came down to San Francisco 2 weeks ago and we went on a few outings together. It was great fun but the sad fact is probably I've never travelled so much ever since I came to SF before he came to visit me. Shows you how much of a hermit I am but anyway, let's leave that aside shall we?

Roll da pictures! (Warning: Photo heavy blogpost)

This was from our first outing on Monday, March 23rd. Shaun borrowed his friend's car so we could drive around. Wee~ And apparently you can use your Malaysian driving license here. Who would've thunk?
We just left his apartment when we saw this whole commotion thing going on. Eventhough the road was blocked, we purposely drove to it just to see what's going on... so kepoh lol. Typical Malaysians...
There was no fire, and we couldn't see any people.. so we sort of wondered if they were trying to rescue a kitten or something...

This was the Korean BBQ restaurant we were suppose to go. They're so good they have 2 restaurants, but the second one was closed on the day we were going so it was doubly packed in the first one. In the end, we went for All You Can Eat at an Indian place. It was pretty good... but I probably won't be craving for Indian food in a while now. The sad part was when we went to the buffet area there was no naan, only rice, and Shaun was saying "Aiya, don't care lah.." So I was like.. okay, fine. After an hour, or so, after we're done eating, and when most of the patrons had already left, out comes the naan! ARUUUGH!

After dinner we went up to Twin Peaks for a view. My goodness it's been more than a year ago since I was there.
View from Twin Peaks. It looks a 100 times better in person. Photos definitely does not do the view justice. Everything is so yellow.

That bright long strip of light is Market Street, the main street of San Francisco downtown.

Since we had a GPS, we then explored and ended up in Sausalito. This is like a restaurant by the ocean I think. There seem to be a party going on there when we arrived.

While we were here, there was this creepy lonely guy playing the accordian and singing.. a sailor's song or something. Yeeeah.

Just when I thought I've seen the last of Shaun (well, that sounded like I didn't want to see him..) , on Saturday morning he calls me up to go hiking with him. It was out of the blue but I thought the exercise would be good for me. So I went to meet up with him after my Saturday class..

Life is a highwaaay~ I want to drive it all night looong~

We're gonna pass the Golden Gate Bridge.

I think this is probably the second time I'm driving through the Golden Gate bridge. The first time being the random drive with him a few days earlier, that was at night though, this time it's during the day.

Can sort of see the city of San Francisco from here.

We had to drive through this pretty rural area to get to where we wanted to go.

Flowers growing on the hillside...

The highway here was pretty scary. One lane on each side.. and there was no.. border thing.. you can literally drive off the cliff if you're not careful... Scary....

COWS! On our way back we spotted some wild deers but it was at night so couldn't take a proper picture.

Lol. Those typical windmills that you see in cowboy movies.

This part of the highway was closed for a while because they were towing out this car that.. well, ended up driving off the highway...

Took us around 30-40 minutes to arrive. The place we were hiking is called Point Reyes.
Me. As you can see... Shaun's not very good at compositing a photo.

The trail in the background is where we hiked.. and that was only like 10% of the entire hike. Didn't take much photos during the later parts because they were in the jungle area. Each way was around probably 7km...pretty much almost 14 km total. 3 hours worth of hiking. @_@ Took us an hour and a half to reach where we wanted to go.

Still on the way....Already taken off my outer jacket cause it was getting hot...

The first lake that we passed by...

The second lake.. that's closer to where we wanted to get to.

See the second peak, the one on the right. That was our destination.

Getting steeper as we go up..

Finally we're up there! Doesn't look that high up in the photo... but it was seriously really scary being up there.

Once again, camera does not do the view justice...

Really don't know why it looks more shallow in photos.. I guess you really have to be there to really feel it.

We saw this weird slimy slug thing on the way back.Yuck.

After the hiking trip I was pretty much k-o-ed. Slept almost the entire way back to SF. Woke up next day with my body aching all over lol.

Anyway, before going home we decided to try the Korean BBQ place again.
The waiting list.

Appetizers and veggies. I so love kimchi. Wished they gave more... :(
Yay! First time trying Korean BBQ! It was pretty good I'll have to say. :3

--

Also happened 2 weeks ago, my good friend Chris took me to this really nice French Restaurant called Chouchou. Uh yeah.. Chouchou.. but the food was really really good...

Fancy fancy....feels almost like I'm on a date with him.. which is so wrong.

Appetizers.. The uh, duck liver and salad. The salad was really nice. It had bacon and the veggie thing was bitter.. so it gives this bitter sweet salty taste.

The Steak was so so goooood. And it came with a potato gratin that was really good too.

Mmmm.. fried potatoes...

Dessert. Had a mandarin chocolate orange tart. Mmmm. Gah I want good food badly right now.

Falaalaaaaaaaaa~ Laaaaaaaaa~
Kbai.
